Sentences to study and imitate from the author of The Stand, Under the Dome, and The Green Mile, quotes about monsters and movie adaptations of books, and King’s Keynote Speech in 1996.
Thank you and I'm really glad you found the exercises simple! My goal is to give writers simple, yet effective, tools that inspire them to keep writing, keep challenging themselves.
The real power of King, for me at least, is his tone; there's no one else quite like him. He never talks down to the reader or makes them feel stupid - and he never acts dumb to play on our ego. There is such a wonderful, warm, and friendly tone to even his scariest books. It's a real gift, and King is the best I've ever seen at this talent.
There is a video of him on YouTube reading his short story “Afterlife” and the story absolutely highlights his skill in tone and author’s voice.
Yup! I 100% agree. When I read his stories it feels like he's sitting next to me telling the story - no pretense, no "I am the author" or sarcasm towards the reader. HIs tone, his writing, and his overall storytelling abilities in the stories of DIFFERENT SEASONS is my favorite. (Through, to be fair, the most recent book I read is REVIVAL.)
Thank you for these, it's really helpful to rewrite sentences in this way.

These are so fun and really show on the line level why SK is so readable!
I agree! I noticed with King's writings that when i just look at them at the sentence level, a completely new world emerges.
